Mark J. Snyder
BOARD CHAIR

Mark Snyder is the Managing Partner of Snyder Wealth Group, bringing over five decades of experience in wealth management, retirement planning, and financial consulting. A nationally recognized financial professional, Mark holds a wide range of prestigious industry designations, including Retirement Management Analysis, Chartered Financial Consultant, and Registered Fiduciary, each reflecting his commitment to ongoing education and responsible client stewardship.
A proud graduate of Stony Brook University with a degree in Engineering Sciences, Mark has remained a dedicated advocate for the university and its students. He is a past president of both the Stony Brook University Alumni Association and the Gloria & Mark Snyder Hillel Center at Stony Brook, reflecting a long-standing commitment to education, leadership, and community. He currently serves on the College of Business Dean’s Advisory Board, where he lends his professional insight and philanthropic spirit to support the College’s mission of preparing the next generation of business leaders.
Mark and his wife Gloria are also passionate supporters of health education and advocacy. Together, they helped establish the Gloria and Mark Snyder Cancer Symposium, an annual event hosted in partnership with Stony Brook Medicine that brings together leading experts, students, and community members for critical conversations about cancer prevention, treatment, and survivorship.
In addition to his professional and university affiliations, Mark is deeply involved in the broader Long Island community, serving on nonprofit boards including the JTM Foundation at Mather Hospital and is currently the Treasurer and past board member of Theatre Three in Port Jefferson. He is also a member of the Port Jefferson Rotary Club and the Financial Planning Association of Long Island.
Mark’s career and community work are driven by the same principles: integrity, education, and service. Whether advising clients or mentoring students, he brings an unwavering dedication to helping others build secure, prosperous futures.
Arlene Butterklee

Arlene Butterklee recently celebrated her 28th anniversary as a Radiation Therapist at Northwell Health, where she treats cancer patients. Previously, Ms. Butterklee worked as a logistics engineer at Grumman. Among other things, Ms. Butterklee represented Grumman at the Society of Women Engineers National Convention, where she presented her technical paper Sparing Analysis, A Poisson Approach. After ten years she went back to school to in order to pursue her current career in the health field.
Ms. Butterklee is active at Stony Brook University as a member of the College of Business Dean’s Advisory Board and as a donor. Ms. Butterklee also taught fencing at Stony Brook University while she was a graduate student.
Ms. Butterklee received a B.S. Degree with a double major in Biology and Psychology from Stony Brook University in 1982. She received an M.S. Degree in Policy Analysis and Public Management in 1984 from Harriman College (which was the precursor to the College of Business) at Stony Brook University. She also received an A.S. Degree from Nassau Community College in Radiation Therapy in 1995, where she graduated with honors and was the valedictorian of her class. She is a licensed Radiation Therapist.
Ms. Butterklee is well known as a dog trainer, handler, and breeder of Chinese Cresteds and Lowchens and has over 350 champions and many top winners in the Chinese Crested breed. Ms. Butterklee also rescues pit bull dogs and breeds dogs that become service dogs for deaf and handicapped individuals. Her articles on the Chinese Crested dog are featured in many books and magazines, and she is featured with her dogs in many publications.
Neil Butterklee, J.D.

Neil H. Butterklee, J.D., is an attorney in private practice focusing on energy and business law. He provides legal services for energy industry clients focusing on wholesale electric markets, renewable energy, and electric transmission development.
Mr. Butterklee recently retired as an Associate General Counsel in the Con Edison Law Department where he managed Con Edison’s federal regulatory practice group. Among his accomplishments at Con Edison was his work in the establishment of New York’s energy markets and the corporation that administers them, the creation of NY Transco, a company focused on building and owning electric transmission facilities, and his representation of Con Edison in the PG&E bankruptcy. Mr. Butterklee has successfully represented Con Edison in litigation and settlement proceedings before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and the New York Public Service Commission and in appellate litigation before the United States Courts of Appeal for the D.C., 1st, and 9th Circuits.
Mr. Butterklee serves in many roles at Stony Brook University including as an adjunct professor teaching undergraduate courses in business law and business communications and a graduate course in electric energy markets, the President of the Stony Brook Alumni Association, a member of the College of Business Dean’s Advisory Board, a judge of Stony Brook’s 3 Minute Thesis competition, and as a donor. Mr. Butterklee previously taught fencing at Stony Brook University while he was a graduate student.
Mr. Butterklee received his J.D. Degree Cum Laude from New York Law School in 1992, which he attended on full scholarship and where he was an Editor of the New York Law School Law Review. Mr. Butterklee also received an M.B.A. in Finance from Adelphi University (1987), an M.S. in Urban and Policy Sciences from Harriman College (the precursor to the College of Business) at Stony Brook University (1982) and a B.A. in Political Science also from Stony Brook University (1980). Mr. Butterklee is admitted to practice law in New York, Connecticut, and in several federal appellate courts, including the United States Supreme Court.
Mr. Butterklee has co-authored several scholarly articles on Market Power and Bankruptcy. His articles have often been cited in decisions of the FERC and in law journals. He has also published several articles on animal law and home construction. He has been a frequent speaker at bar association and energy industry conferences focusing on electric energy markets and bankruptcy law. Mr. Butterklee serves as a judge in the ABA’s and New York Law School’s annual moot court competitions.
Carlos R. Cabana
Carlos R. Cabana is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Quantex, an AI technology company based
at the CEWIT incubator at Stony Brook University. Quantex is focused on building governed
AI systems that help financial institutions and other regulated enterprises automate
complex workflows, strengthen operational oversight, and modernize legacy infrastructure
through agent-based architecture, data automation, and intelligent workflow orchestration.
Mr. Cabana brings more than three decades of experience across global capital markets, with deep expertise in institutional trading, electronic execution, market structure, trading systems, and client solutions across both the buy side and sell side. His career combines Wall Street operating experience with a long-standing focus on technology-driven transformation in financial services.
Prior to launching Quantex full time, Mr. Cabana served as Managing Director and Head of Equity Sales & Trading at CastleOak Securities, where he led the firm’s equity execution strategy, expanded its global trading capabilities, and managed key institutional relationships with asset managers, pension plans, and corporate issuers. During his tenure, he helped modernize the firm’s equity trading platform, including electronic trading workflows, international market access, algorithmic execution, and operational infrastructure.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Cabana held roles at Morgan Stanley, Bear Stearns, Knight Capital Group, Cantor Fitzgerald, and Topeka Capital Markets. He also spent a decade at Bloomberg LP, where he held senior leadership roles focused on trading systems, institutional client coverage, and global execution technology. At Bloomberg, he worked on the adoption and integration of multi-asset trading platforms, including execution management systems, order management systems, and electronic trading tools used by institutional clients across equities, fixed income, foreign exchange, and derivatives.
Through Quantex, Mr. Cabana partners with academic researchers, engineers, students, and industry professionals to advance the practical application of AI in regulated environments. His work focuses on helping institutions bridge the gap between emerging AI capabilities and real-world governance, compliance, auditability, and operational control.
Mr. Cabana is a strong advocate for inclusive innovation, applied research, and technology that creates meaningful opportunities for students, entrepreneurs, and diverse professionals in finance and technology.
Mr. Cabana holds a B.A. in Economics and Spanish from Bucknell University, an M.B.A. in Finance from Hofstra University, and a Master of Science in Business and Computer Information Systems from Hofstra University.
As a member of the Dean’s Advisory Board at the Stony Brook College of Business, Mr.
Cabana provides strategic guidance on aligning academic programs with evolving industry
needs. He is actively involved in mentorship, applied research partnerships, and initiatives
that prepare students to lead in finance, technology, artificial intelligence, and
entrepreneurial leadership.
David L. Calone

David Calone is the CEO of Jove Equity Partners, LLC, a venture capital firm that helps start and build technology companies located throughout the United States. He has served on the boards of ten privately-held companies in connection with his entrepreneurial and investing activities. He is the co-founder and Board Chair of a technology-enabled health care company that has been recognized four times by Inc. Magazine as one of the fastest growing private companies in the country. He is a co-inventor on 19 U.S. patents relating to internet data aggregation and to health care data and consumer choice.
Mr. Calone is the founder of the Long Island Emerging Technologies Fund which helped launch and provide seed funding for ten early stage companies based on technology developed at the research institutions on Long Island. He serves as founding National Board Chair for Patriot Boot Camp, a 501(c)(3) that helps veterans and active duty service members from around the country start businesses. He also helped organize the bipartisan Congressional Caucus on Innovation and Entrepreneurship in the U.S. House of Representatives, advocating for federal policies that promote job creation through the development of start-ups and other small businesses. In that role, he was instrumental in the creation of “Start Up Day Across America,” an annual event to connect state and federal officials with early stage companies in their region.
From 2008 to 2015, Mr. Calone served as Chair of the Suffolk County Planning Commission. In that capacity, he led the Commission to focus on land use policies with regional impact including economic development, infrastructure financing, regulatory streamlining, energy efficiency and distributed generation, water protection, smart growth, housing diversity and public safety. He quarterbacked the creation of Suffolk County’s first Comprehensive Plan in nearly 40 years and he spearheaded the LI Unified Solar Permitting Initiative which has since been adopted as a model for permit streamlining across New York State and for which Suffolk County was awarded a National Association of Counties’ 2012 National Achievement Award. He developed an agriculture equipment financing program for new farmers that has been endorsed and funded by NY State and he created one of the country’s first geothermal energy permitting codes.
Mr. Calone has held a number of other public and philanthropic roles on Long Island including as Chair of Suffolk County’s Superstorm Sandy Review Task Force, and serving on the Long Island Manufacturing Task Force, on the Executive Board of the United Way of Long Island, on the board of the Community Development Corporation of LI, and on the board of Accelerate LI.
Previously, after graduating with honors from Harvard Law School, Mr. Calone was a federal prosecutor focusing on cases involving international corporate fraud and terrorism and a New York state prosecutor focusing on cases involving public integrity and health care fraud. In 2015, he was named a Truman National Security Fellow. He has an economics degree from Princeton University where he was named a USA Today College Academic All-American and was elected twice as student body president. He lives in Setauket with his wife Kate, a Presbyterian minister, and their three children.
Carlton J. Charles
Carlton J. Charles is Senior Vice President of Treasury and Risk Management at Hearst, a $13 billion
private and diversified media company based in New York City. In this capacity, he
leads enterprise-wide treasury strategy, financial risk oversight, and capital markets
activity.
Charles also chairs Level Up Ventures, Hearst’s venture capital unit supporting diverse founders, and leads the company’s Supplier Diversity Council. He serves on the board of directors at Hearst and M&T Bank, where he contributes on the Risk and the Nominating & Governance Committees.
Deeply committed to community impact, Charles is a board member of Urban Arts, a nonprofit empowering under-resourced youth through game design and digital storytelling as a pathway to college and career. He is a member of the Executive Leadership Council and a Governance Fellow with the National Association of Corporate Directors.
Charles holds an MBA in Finance from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, as well as a Master’s in Public Policy and a Bachelor’s in Quantitative Economics from Stony Brook University.
Lawrence A. Danielson
Larry Danielson is a senior partner and practice leader at Deloitte. He is a recognized strategic
leader, that builds and scales significantly sized businesses. He is a technology
transformation expert with a proven track record helping organizations set strategy
to grow, scale and address risk. Mr. Danielson brings 40+ years of experience developing
and effectively executing business, technology, talent, diversity, equity, and inclusion
(DE&I) strategies for some of the largest organizations in the world, with deep experience
in the financial services and technology industries. He is a skilled advisor to the
C-suite and corporate boards on a broad set of issues, including digital strategy
transformation, finance operations/technology, acquisitions/divestitures, regulatory
compliance, talent development, and risk oversight.
Mr. Danielson graduated from Stony Brook University with a BE in Electrical and Biomedical Engineering and from Steven’s Institute with a MS in Computer Science. He and his wife primarily reside in Boca Raton, FL with a part-time residence in Bridgehampton, NY. He is an entrepreneur, as avid investor in real estate development and technology start-ups. Mr. Danielson is also working on his golf game.
Rob Gitto
Rob Gitto is Vice President of The Gitto Group, a premier Long Island-based real estate development
and management firm. Since joining the family business alongside his father, Tony
Gitto, after graduating from Skidmore College in 2001, Rob has played a key role in
shaping the company’s full-service approach to real estate development. Together,
they have developed more than 1 million square feet of retail, multifamily, and office
space across Long Island, with an additional 375,000 square feet currently in development.
From land acquisition and planning through construction, management, and long-term
community impact, Rob and Tony oversee every aspect of the development process throughout
Long Island and the greater New York City area.
Recognized for his strategic vision and hands-on expertise, Rob is a trusted advisor to investors and developers seeking guidance in development, construction, finance, and property management. Under his leadership, The Gitto Group has earned a reputation for delivering efficient, cost effective, and community-focused projects that create lasting value.
Rob holds a Master of Science in Real Estate Development from the NYU Schack Institute of Real Estate and remains deeply involved in the industry and local community. He serves as Co-Chair of Stony Brook University’s Real Estate Institute, Vice President of the Long Island Real Estate Group, President of the Port Jefferson Village Business Improvement District, a Board Member of the Long Island Builders Institute, and President of The 1957 Club.
His leadership and accomplishments have been widely recognized, including honors such as City & State’s 2025 Long Island Trailblazers, Long Island Business News’ Who’s Who in Commercial Real Estate, and Long Island Press’ Power Players in Real Estate. The Gitto Group has also received numerous industry accolades, including multiple Smart Growth Awards, the Long Island Herald Commercial Real Estate Development Award, and LIBN’s Property Management Award.
Rob resides in East Setauket with his wife, Kerry, and their son, Ryan.
Michelle L. Flaim
Michelle Flaim has been with Travelers Insurance for over 20 years holding roles in both underwriting
and claims. In her current role, Excess Casualty Assistant Vice President she is responsible
for managing underwriting, profitability, growth and retention. She also taught Risk
Management and Insurance at Stony Brook University from 2022-2024.
Ms. Flaim holds a B.A. from Fordham University and a M.S. in Organizational Leadership from Quinnipiac University. She holds her CPCU and AIC insurance designations. She served on the Long Island CPCU board from 2010-2021. Ms. Flaim also served as the Long Island and New Jersey CPCU Governor from 2017-2019.
Ms. Flaim is currently part of the Long Island Insurance Foundation board which is dedicated to growing the insurance industry in conjunction with an Insurance and Risk Management program at Stony Brook University.
Ms. Flaim is passionate about giving back to others and aspires everyday to live her personal mission statement of having a profound positive impact on people she interacts with. She committed to their journey, and it is through their successes or failures that she measures her own.
Kelley Heck
Kelley Heck serves as Executive Vice President of TRITEC Development Group, where she is responsible
for acquisitions, entitlements, financing, leasing, and business development initiatives,
as well as stakeholder engagement. In this role, she plays a key part in advancing
the company’s commitment to building trust and earning support across the areas in
which TRITEC operates. Her focus on sustainability, environmental stewardship, and
smart growth supports the long-term success of the neighborhoods and developments
the firm delivers.
Prior to joining TRITEC, Kelley worked at Bloomberg L.P. as an Account Manager serving equity buy-side clientele, specifically engaging portfolio and risk managers throughout the New York metropolitan area.
Kelley holds a Master of International Business from The Fletcher School at Tufts
University, concentrating on the complexities that link international finance and
environmental resource conservation. She also earned a Bachelor of Arts in International
Studies from Middlebury College, with a focus on Economics and Mandarin Chinese. She
serves as Co-Chair of the Real Estate Institute at Stony Brook University and is a
board member of the Long Island Builders Institute, the New York League of Conservation
Voters’ Long Island Chapter, Long Island Home Builders Care, and Newsday’s Next LI
Advisory Board.
Douglas Monticciolo
Douglas Monticciolo is the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Investment Officer and Co-Founder of Brevet
Capital Management. He is an entrepreneur and investment manager with deep data analytics
and technology experience developed over three decades while providing credit financing
and advisory services.
Mr. Monticciolo founded Brevet Capital Management in 2006 and has established the Firm as a leader in helping government agencies solve complex problems and drive positive social impact through the creation of innovative financing products and services. This finance-as-service approach provides direct lending and other financing to private middle market companies enabling them to effectively serve the government sector as contractors – a low credit risk strategy with highly competitive barriers to entry.
Mr. Monticciolo’s years of experience working in start-up environments as a software entrepreneur and within asset-backed securities, fixed income, and investment banking helped him identify a gap in the market where traditional capital providers failed to provide the innovative financing and forward-looking advisory services needed for private contractors that government contractors rely on to deliver services.
Mr. Monticciolo has a passion for technology and approaches investing and credit financing
with a problem-solving mindset. He began his career at Goldman Sachs in the financial
institution’s industry resource group where he specialized in investment banking and
principal finance trading and helped to create numerous serviced-marked products and
services addressing unmet needs of clients. He later joined Lehman Brothers as a senior
vice president in the company’s strategy group; a principal investment joint venture
between investment banking and fixed income. He left Lehman Brothers to become director
and co-head of asset-backed securities in North America at Deutsche Bank and head
of proprietary fixed income in the merchant banking/principal finance
group.
Mr. Monticciolo’s career took a turn from academics to finance when he was studying at Columbia University and working with Fischer Black, creator of the Black–Scholes model, on complex mathematical formulas. He was encouraged to apply his skills to financial problem solving instead of academia and decided to put aside his pursuit of a PhD to join Goldman Sachs.
Mr. Monticciolo received a Master of Engineering Sciences degree in Applied Mathematics from Columbia University. He graduated from the State University of New York at Stony Brook with an M.S. in Applied Mathematics and earned a B.S. in Applied Mathematics and Computer Science. Mr. Monticciolo is a Level III certified member of the National Association of Rocketry (NAR High Power Rocketry) and a member of the Randonneurs USA (long distance road biking organization).
Mr. Monticciolo also coaches robotics and innovation and has led teams to numerous regional awards. He led one of his teams to a worldwide 2nd place finish (runner-up) for the FLL Global Innovation Award season sponsored by Edison Nation and XPRIZE Foundation in cooperation with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (an agency of the United States Department of Commerce).
He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Hope for New York and is a member of the Young Presidents Organization (YPO) Gotham Chapter. In 2023, Mr. Monticciolo accepted an invitation to become a member of the Chief Executives Organization (CEO).
