The College of Business Convocation is a special event that celebrates the achievements of our graduating students. We are excited to welcome graduates, families, and friends to this memorable occasion. Below, you'll find important information to help guide you through the ceremony and answer any questions you may have.

General Questions

Commencement is the university-wide ceremony celebrating all graduating students and typically features speeches from university leadership and invited guests. Convocation is a more personalized ceremony hosted by individual colleges or departments, like the College of Business, where graduates are individually recognized and walk across the stage as their name is called.
Once you have been cleared for graduation your Diploma will be ordered by the Registrar's Office.
- - Diplomas are ordered at the end of each month. Your information is supplied directly to our printer – we do not print diplomas at the University.
  - You can expect to receive your diploma approximately 4-6 weeks after your degree has been awarded. For international addresses – you can expect to receive your diploma at least 6-8 weeks after your degree has been awarded.
The only opportunity you have to update your diploma mailing address is upon applying for graduation. If your address has changed after applying to graduate, YOU MUST UPDATE YOUR DIPLOMA MAILING ADDRESS WITH THE REGISTRAR’S OFFICE. FAILURE TO DO SO WILL RESULT IN A DELAY OF MAILING.

If you require proof of graduation prior to receipt of your diploma, you may request a degree certification from the Registrar’s Office. There is no cost to you to obtain this letter.

If you have a Bursar Hold on record for a balance due to the University, your diploma will not be mailed. Your diploma will be held at the Office of the Registrar and you must call us at (631) 632-6175 when your hold is cleared to pick up your diploma or have it mailed. It is the student’s responsibility to let the Office of the Registrar know that the hold has cleared.
- Graduating students: RIGHT side of face
- Faculty and Stage Guests: LEFT side of face (they’ve completed their degrees, so they’ve left)
We generally have a few extra on hand, but no guarantees. Please note that the tassel is packaged loosely within the cap and gown bundle. If you are not looking for it, it could easily fall onto the floor and be lost. If you cannot find your tassel, please go to the bookstore and purchase a new one, to guarantee you will have one on graduation day.
Graduates and guests should park in the Indoor Sports Complex Parking Lot (Lots 6A & 6B), accessible via Gym Road. Enter through the main Arena doors on John S. Toll Drive.

College of Business Convocation Questions

Arrive dressed in your cap, gown, and hood, and wear sensible shoes as you'll be using stairs during the ceremony - elevator and ramp use will also be available. If you haven't picked up your regalia yet, visit Shop Red West in the lower level of the library.
Yes, every graduate will be photographed 2–3 times. To receive your free proofs quickly, complete the QR Selfie Check-In using the code on your reader card—either in advance or onsite with your phone. There is no obligation to purchase, and packages start at $7.95.

Order your regalia between January 13 - March 14, 2025, and have your regalia ready to pick up at Shop Red West April 16 - May 16, 2025 (During hours of operation only. Check SBUShopRed.com for up-to-date information).

Order regalia between March 15 - April 22, 2025, and have your regalia shipped to your home.

Guest Questions

The following items are prohibited at commencement ceremonies: outside food/beverage, including thermoses, coolers, alcoholic beverages, backpacks, luggage, strollers, umbrellas, noise makers and balloons, weapons, laser pointers, fireworks, aerosol cans and non service pets. All bags are subject to search.
