Tutoring Services
The International Student Center offers both Writing and International Student Success Tutoring to both graduate and undergraduate international students.
Writing Tutors
All writing tutors are trained by the Stony Brook Writing Center and can support both undergraduate and graduate writers. Writing tutors can help with:
- Writing clarity
- Essay structure
- Content problems
Priority is given to scheduled appointments. Walk-ins are welcome if appointments are not booked for the day. All appointments are 45 minutes long and will be held in the International Student Center. Please bring your laptop and relevant course materials with you.

International student success Tutors
International Student Success Tutors are skills-based tutors who can help you navigate academic and cultural challenges in the new educational environment. ISS tutors are trained by ISS and ASTC to guide and support you with:
- Academic support
- Language and cultural acclimation
- Finding and using campus resources
- Understanding your syllabus and the US education system
International Student Success Tutors are not able to help with writing assignments. For writing help, please make an appointment with a writing tutor.
International Student Success Skills-Based Tutoring is appointment-only. Walk-ins are not accepted. All appointments will be held in the International Student Center.
