Take care of yourselves and each other as the semester ends
May 7, 2025
Dear Faculty and Staff,
As finals approach, I want to thank you all for your dedication and commitment to your students and teaching, your research, and our university.
Our students are navigating the weight of academic expectations, and this time of year places real and significant demands on each of you as well. Often, a great deal of stress comes along with those demands. This semester has been particularly difficult because of the destabilizing federal changes that impacted our research efforts and our students, and shaken our sense of who we are and what we stand for.
In light of all these external stressors, I know how difficult it can be to take time to pause and care for yourselves. Yet I encourage you to try to do so; caring for yourselves and those around you is perhaps more important than ever.
And if you find yourself in need of more support, please take advantage of the resources that are always available to you on campus:
Healthier U will also host a special meditation session at noon on Tuesday, May 13.
If you see a student in distress, please refer them to our student support resources:
As stressful as this time of year can be, it is also a time for celebrating the accomplishments of our students, our faculty and our staff. Behind every one of these success stories is a community of support: thoughtful guidance, compassion, and a tireless commitment to this place and each other.
Sincerely,
Carl
