University Scholars Event Policy

Events are continuously added—check back often!

Attendance Requirements:

🔹Scholars must attend one event per semester.
🔹First-year, first-time students are required to attend two  events per semester during their first year.
🔹New current admits (students admitted to Scholars after starting at SBU) must attend two events in their first semester.

Eligible Events:

🔹Only events marked with a "*" fulfill the Scholars event requirement.

Participation Guidelines:

To receive credit:
🔹Arrive on time and stay for the entire duration of the event.
🔹Submit your attendance using form within 48 hours of the event.

"Seal the Deal" Financial Literacy Online Workshop Series*

Join us for the “Seal the Deal” Financial Literacy Online Workshop Series—a valuable resource to help you gain essential skills in managing your money, budgeting, saving, and planning for financial success.

To receive event credit:

You must watch the entire video from start to finish.

When submitting your reflection, be sure to provide detailed and thoughtful responses that clearly show you reviewed the full duration of the presentation.

Incomplete reflections or responses that do not demonstrate full engagement with the content may not be accepted for credit.


Coffee & Conversations: Celebrating Alumni in Government, Law, and Public Service*

 Join the SBU Career Center and chat with Aspiring lawyers, government officials, and public service professionals, you are invited to our Coffee & Conversations: Celebrating Alumni in Government, Law, and Public Service event! This brunch reception is in recognition of Public Service Week, honoring our public servants at all levels of government and law. Join us in the Career Center studio to celebrate our featured alumni who will be highlighted on our Alumni Wall of Wisdom. 

Several of our esteemed alum working in government, law, and public service, as well as faculty and staff from the Department of Political Science, will be in attendance and eager to chat with you.


Roth Regatta 2025*

The day of the event races will commence at 1 pm on Friday, May 2nd, 2025. The official theme of this year’s Regatta is Greek Mythology, and adherence to the theme is highly encouraged. Race with your club, organization, or friends, or just come to enjoy the festivities. Free t-shirts and lunch will be given out starting at 12 p.m. Food is provided courtesy of SBUEats!

Channel the power of the Greek gods, heroes, and creatures to showcase your personality and team spirit. The Gods were known for their strength, passion, and individuality—just like you! Whether you embody the wisdom of Athena, the speed of Hermes, or channel your inner warrior like Ares, your boat is your canvas to show who you are!


Scholars Destress Fest*

Join us at the University Scholars De-Stress Fest for a relaxing and fun-filled break from finals preparation! The event will feature a presentation by Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) on relaxation techniques, offering practical tips to reduce stress. You’ll also  creative crafts, as well as games to unwind with friends. Plus, you can make your own personalized finals de-stress kit, choosing from snacks, fidget toys, and other soothing items. 

Come relax, recharge, and get ready to tackle finals with a clear mind!


Frame Decorating Night with the Roosevelt Community RAs*

Seniors can pick up their graduation cords, decorate their caps, snap some fun graduation photos, and write a letter to a future Scholars Seawolf. Come celebrate, reflect, and send off the semester in style with your fellow Scholars! This event is open to all University Scholars Students, not just our Seniors!

Join the Department of English and Andrew Newman and Neisha Terry Young! 2025 marks the centennial of the publication of The Great Gatsby. In this workshop, join Andrew Newman and Neisha Terry Young as we examine research on how and why teachers engage with this text in their classrooms. We will then explore various critical approaches to teaching the text, keeping in mind the multiple intersectional identities of our students. Finally, we will use our exploration as a lens to examine how to apply critical pedagogies to other canonical texts.
